Sofia Smarandescu

Violine

Born on 12 April 2005, Nara city, Japan Sofia began playing violin at the age of 4 with her mother, Masami Smărăndescu, and continued studying it with Prof. Olivia Papa at the "George Enescu" National Highschool of Music. She was a student of Professor Magdalena Ursu at the National Highschool of Arts "Dinu Lipatti". She also studied with teachers : Emilian Piedicuță, Ioana Croitoru, Gabriel Croitoru, Liviu Prunaru, Erzhan Kulibaev, Igor Petrushevsky, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, Petru Munteanu, Paul Roczek, Barnabas Kelemen. Currently, she is a first year undergraduate student of Professor Krzysztof Wegrzyn at the University of Music, Theatre and Media in Hanover. She has won numerous awards, among them: 1st Prize at the International Violin Competition "Modest Iftinchi" 2019, 1st Prize at the International Violin Competition "Prestissimo" Timisoara 2020, Grand Prize at the International Remember Enescu Competition 2021 , Grand Prize and Special Prize "Paul Constantinescu" at the National Competition of Music Performance and Creation "Paul Constantinescu" 2021 and 1st Prize at the National Olympiad of Instrumental Performance in Timisoara 2022. She has performed chamber music recitals as a member of chamber ensembles and has also been appointed Concert Master of the Junior Orchestra, 2020 and 2021 season and Concert Master of the Sinfonietta Orchestra, 2022 season. She has given recitals both in Romania and abroad. She has also given concerts with the orchestra as a soloist.
